Week 22 & We Are Having a Party After All

June 22nd, 2015 at 07:54 am

It's now week 22 of the challenge and everything is going well. Banking the Difference challenge is on hold until after B's birthday as we now need to come up with about $4000 in 6 weeks

We confirmed the party venue this morning. $4000 might be too much but it's the absolute maximum we will spend. We worked out the list and there are about 100 people on it. So if all 100 people came, that's what we would spend. (I doubt everyone would come though, there are always people who can't make it to these things).

We were on track to come up with half the money by the end of the month but then B's drill broke and a replacement cost $660. That definitely cut into the profit.

We have been spending as little as possible and have been trying to be creative with ways to save money, we just need no more big repairs or things to be replaced. But at least we have savings there to use if needed. I just don't want to use them because I know how much effort went into getting the savings in the first place.

I know what you mean about not wanting to use savings. How exciting that the venue's confirmed Smile

Thanks! And yeah half the battle with savings is getting it & the other half is keeping it!

I agree on that with the savings too. I really try to avoid using it if I can cash flow it in a short period of time. That must be quite a party for $4K!

I don't know about your friend/family circle, but when I throw parties, about 60-70% of the invitees RSVP yes and actually show up too. $4000 sounds pretty high to me for a party, but then cost of living varies so much by state let alone country, so it might sound more expensive than it is for your area. I spent $1000 on my 40th party a couple years ago, which felt like a lot but enabled me to do everything I wanted to. It was well worth it for the great time and the fond memories I have of it. Because there's so many people we're having it at a function centre - we've researched prices and are having nibblies for the dinner food- that will be a maximum of $1500 (anticipating adjusting it down when we have final numbers). And we are putting money on a tab for drinks (this is something which is done within our circle) - we are planning on putting down a maximum of $2000 for drinks. (Beer and wine only). (This may be adjusted later too). It's extravagant I know, but I am just hoping we can cashflow most of it (will just require being extremely careful for a few weeks).

It sounds as though you have good plan in place to make the party happen!
