My Spring Capsule Wardrobe

October 4th, 2015 at 10:19 am

Ceejay inspired me with her capsule wardrobe so as we are at the start of spring I researched spring capsule wardrobes, decided on one I felt was appropriate to me and got as many clothing pieces together as possible and evaluated what I would need to purchase.

Luckily most of my clothing is in good condition and I bought some summery tops before we went away in March and have barely worn them because the season then changed.

I have two pairs of jeans, Capri cargo 3/4 pants, shorts and a denim skirt for bottoms. I have five different cardigans- some long sleeves, some short. I have two tshirts and three tank tops, and four going out tops. I also have two going out jackets and three dresses, a pair of flip flops, a pair of sneakers, some dressy flip flops, and two or three pairs of going out shoes. Oh, and three long sleeve tshirts.
And because I tend to stick to black, white and beige (too much of these), with some denim, some coral pinks and some navy, everything matches.

So according to the capsule contents, I need a long sleeve shirt! That is all for the next three months!!

I found one for $38. I also want to get a short sleeve tshirt and a going out top. Hoping to spend $100 for all three.

Next will be a capsule for work clothes because they say to separate the two. Aiming to complete my casual spring clothes capsule by the middle of the month then will look at work clothes in the last couple of weeks in October.

interesting! where did you find info about a typical capsule wardrobe? i've been toying with the idea myself - i think i may do something similar already without realizing it, but would like to be more conscious about it.

None of my clothes mix and match very well. I have jeans and black dress pants, all manner of colors/types of tops, a black/white/brown skirt, a pink skirt which I've still not really found a good matching top for ... and a number of dresses. I don't do layers very well because I hate being hot / wearing long sleeves / wearing layers ...

Interesting about a capsule wardrobe. I learn something every day.

Starfishy I just googled spring capsule wardrobe, read some articles and then clicked on the images tab and looked through images and picked out some like my style of clothing. They say it's kind of minimalist and Marie Kondo. The articles say it's best to do it at the start of a season so you are looking at your clothes for the next three months. So your aim is to buy only at the start of the season and that's it. I like the idea because you are planning ahead so you can search for items that suit your budget. So if you're coming into winter you would look at winter capsule wardrobes.

FrugalTexan maybe you can get some things that can be worn with more than one outfit so you get your use of the clothes you already own?

Rob I like the idea because it's kind of in the same sense as use up items in your pantry - the aim is to use up what you have to gain the most wears from each item so you get your money's worth. Unfortunately I also have to clean out the items that don't fit properly/don't get worn!

Nice job! I decided to get clothing that would be appropriate for work but would be comfortable enough to wear around. (My office does business casual, so it wasn't too hard to find a middle ground.) When I'm doing chores where I might get dirty and sweaty, I change into workout clothes. It's kind of nice looking pulled-together even on weekends!

So far I've taken a picture every day, so I can see what different outfits I've already done. Might be fun to see how long I can go without repeating an exact combination. Smile

Sounds good! I can't do one whole capsule wardrobe, have to separate work from play.. It does mean my casual wardrobe is of the smaller size though because of this.. Work may be a different story because that's five days of the week
