Feb 18th

February 18th, 2016 at 11:18 am

Quick random blog post for today. I'm on the computer trying to do money transfers but for some reason I can't get into the banking website, I'll have to do it tomorrow, no drama.

When going to pay the weekly bills I realised that I forgot to pay our home phone and B's phone bill last week. They were due about the 8th and it is now the 18th! The phone company give $15.00 late fees for over 8 days, so that little error has cost us $30.00. Not thrilling!!! I guess I've had a lot on my mind lately. How annoying. Thankfully this doesn't happen very often.

When I did the balance transfer last year there was around $100 left on CC1, which kind of got paid down but never completely and started to kind of hover around $100. Well in the last few weeks, it has crept up to around $300.

As of a couple of days ago it was $441: the train ticket was $141, the coffee pods balance is $37.60 (every time we use a packet I pay $4.16 against the purchase), the bulk meat balance is $31 and our overspending last week (thanks to a double birthday) was $130. I paid $373 on there from my pay, which leaves the coffee pod purchase and the bulk meat purchase as the only things left to be repaid. It's good to have the balance back to being low again!

Well must get ready to go to bed, will have to pay bills tomorrow - let's hope it's working then!

Ouch! Late fees like that bite! At least you realized they hadn't gotten paid before it was even later. Smile That's why I like having as much as possible automated so I don't have to worry about due dates. Just make sure the money is in the account. Smile

I did something like that. I have to re-apply every year for the senior exemption for my property taxes, and this year I filled it out, stuck it in my purse, and forgot it was there! I found it about two weeks later and mailed it in. Just hoping it wasn't late enough to foul things up!

Our phone bill is due on a weird date and worse, it floats due to weekends and holidays. I eliminated the problem by having it charged directly to a CC which also gives a 5% rebate for these repetitive charges. Very efficient if it's your habit to pay CC balance by it's due date.

Pretty much any bills that don't vary and don't charge for the debit option we set to direct debit. But I get really scared of getting a massive phone bill or electricity bill or something and before you have a chance to put a complaint in it's already paid and you're stuck instead trying to get the money refunded (which in some cases can be a very long process). So I've got to get back onto paying bills weekly Smile.

CB I hope you can still get your senior exemption for your property taxes.

Can you try calling and having the fees waived? I've done that when I've missed a credit card deadline by a day or two. As long as it's your first time asking, they're usually accommodating.

Unfortunately back in my disorganised financial days I used to always get charged these fees, so while my payment history has been better in the last year or so before then it wasn't, so don't really have grounds for a fee waiver.
